In the process of creating this company I have learned a lot of knew skills as well as implemented a lot of the skills I already had. PSU University Housing
RESIDENT ASSISTANT 2016 SCHOOL YEAR
If you have never been to college and observed what an "RA" does then, let me some it up for you. They are babysitters for the Freshman, security for the dorms, and marketers for literally every single student organization on campus. It was eerily similar to my job as a camp counselor and I believe that was something they looked for when hiring because almost half of our staff had been a camp counselor of some sort at one point or another. The job itself was asking a lot of me because I was already an athlete, and in a bunch of clubs, so to throw this in the mix really made my time management skills improve. I grew up a lot in the year I did this because it forced you to be an authority figure, as well as a friend to at least the 30 guys on my floor; which is a really odd sort of grey area that you have to balance. When there where problems in the dorms people would look to you and I had to manage a number of high stress situations that ranged from alcohol poising to suicide prevention.
YMCA
SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR
2015 & 2016
Nothing puts a smile on your face quite as much as helping underprivileged and handicapped children, and this job was just that. I worked with children ages 6-10 that came from all walks of life, helping give them an escape to really be themselves and express themselves. I ran day to day activities for the camp which included preparing games, organizing lunch, and if there was a trip scheduled for the day making sure we where prepared for the chaos of traveling with 50(+) plus kids. In 2015 I was given the title of camp counselor of the year, and in 2016 raised over $500 dollars for the kids so they would have equipment to play with when we weren't on a trip. This was a very fulfilling job and I wouldn't trade some of the moments I had there for anything.
